Ancient City (Muang Boran)
Largest Open-Air Museum in the World
Why Visit Ancient City (Muang Boran)?
Ancient City (Muang Boran) is the largest open-air museum in the world — a 320-acre park 30km southeast of Bangkok shaped like a map of Thailand and packed with full-scale and miniature replicas of every major monument in the country. Created in 1963, it allows visitors to "see all of Thailand in one day": Sukhothai temples, Ayutthaya ruins, the Grand Palace, southern mosques, and northern hill-tribe villages. Bicycle rental is essential — the park is too large to walk.
Ancient City is best visited as a half-day or full-day trip. The ฿700 entry fee includes a map and access to all 100+ monuments. Bicycle rental (฿50) is essential — golf-cart rental (฿250-500/hour) is faster but less fun. Highlights include the Sanphet Prasat Royal Palace replica, the Grand Pavilion, Phra That Mueang Nakhon (a tilting Pre-Khmer temple), and the floating market with food vendors. Allow 4-6 hours minimum.
