Pattaya has cleaned up significantly since the 2010s, with new shopping malls (Terminal 21 Pattaya), upscale Jomtien beach south of the city, and the Khao Pattaya viewpoint offering postcard panoramas.
A day trip works if you focus on one or two specific attractions. The Sanctuary of Truth (massive all-wood temple still under construction since 1981) takes 2-3 hours.
